Unlike the real action we have a stalemate. Too many Germans squeezed into the town with too little infantry left to get them out. Artillery and tank gun bombardment would probably do the job but there's no enough time left on the clock...
With transport scarcity, to each side for differing reasons, more dash was required of those unit elements that actually had any...
The men were desperately exposed advancing to contact and suffered accordingly
The available armour shepherded the men....for all the use that was when speed would have availed better. Even arriving without the full compliment of infantry would have put either side in with a considerable advantage
As is was, anyone exposed...
...from whichever side
..was just meat for mortars and artillery
Murderous and extensive IDF whittled away the British bayonet advantage...
Hence, stalemate.
